On
11-22-2019 at about 3:34 am, The Eureka Police Department
communications center received 2nd
hand information that a female subject was being held against her
will by her boyfriend, identified as Chai Lia Her (37 years old). The
caller further explained that the victim had called her and was told
that Her would not let her out of his vehicle and was driving around
Eureka. Her’s vehicle was only described as a gray truck. A
records check revealed a possible license plate for the vehicle.
Officers began searching for the vehicle.
At
about 4:15 am, the victim phoned 911 and she could be heard stating
repeatedly to be taken home.
At
about 4:33 am, officers located Her’s vehicle traveling southbound
on Fairway Drive. Officers attempted a high risk traffic stop on the
vehicle on Herrick Ave, but the vehicle fled and a pursuit was
initiated. The vehicle continued northbound onto Hwy 101 and into the
city limits. The vehicle ultimately stopped on Glen Street at Harris
Avenue. Her was detained without further incident. The victim was
located uninjured in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
As
a result of the investigation, Her was taken into custody for
kidnapping and evading. He was booked into the Humboldt County
Correctional Facility and is being held on $75,000 bail.
This
is an ongoing investigation and further details will be released if
appropriate.
