From the Eureka Police Department:
On 11/23/2019 at about 5:00 pm, officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to the 3100 Nevada Street to a reported burglary in progress. The Reporting Party (RP) explained seeing a subject entering his neighbor’s residence after the subject had climbed over the fence to the property.
Upon officer’s arrival, a perimeter was set up around the residence. Moments later, the officers observed a male subject inside the residence. A K-9 was then summoned to the scene. Officers made several attempts to contact the subject and have him surrender peaceable, but efforts were met with no response from the subject.
Based on the totality of the circumstances and the lack of contact with the subject, officers and the K-9 entered the residence. The subject, later identified as William Arthur Martin (29 years old of Eureka), was located hiding in a closet of a bedroom. After initially complying with commands to exit the closet, Martin became violent and kicked/punched officers, as they attempted to secure him in handcuffs. After a short struggle and the use of a taser, Martin was taken into custody.
Martin was taken to the St. Joseph Hospital for clearance, due to minor abrasions sustained while resisting arrest. He was soon transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) and booked on charges of burglary, resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, and being under the influence. Martin is being held on $25,000 bail.
