Susan was born May 12, 1951 in White Bird, Idaho to Lester and Dorothy Astry. Susan moved with her family to Trinidad at a young age and attended local schools, graduating from McKinleyville High School.

In 1971 she met and married James Brown of Eureka. Together they had three children, all boys. Susan worked at local convalescent hospitals as an aide and cook for over 30 years. She met lots of friends there and often would go to work early and stay late just to sit and visit with the residents. Some of her hobbies included playing bingo at the casinos and trips with her husband to Reno to visit her sister-in-law Bev and husband Daryl. Susan could also be found at all her grandkids’ sporting events or school functions, cheering on her grandkids and even the other teams at times.

On Nov. 11, Susan went to be with her Mom and Dad, brothers David and Danny, her sister who took care of her in her fight with cancer Shirley Johnston, husband Jim and son Lester and many other brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Susan is survived by her sons James Brown of Eureka and Joseph Brown (Erin Brown) of McKinleyville; grandchildren Deanna Brown, Joseph Jr, Dylan Brown, Daniel Brown and McKennah Sargent; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Bryson; sisters Sharon Gibson, Sandy Ruth, Stella Astry and Sally Astry; brothers Donny, Dennis, Delbert and Dean Astry.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 12 noon at the El Butmo Barn in McKinleyville for Susan, Shirley and David. Please bring your favorite side dish and come share your favorite memories.
