Eureka’s Ian Bennett led the local charge once again at Saturday’s state cross country championships in Fresno.
Bennett, a junior, placed 73rd overall out of 210 runners in the Division-4 boys race, one week after he led the H-DNL with a sixth-place finish at the NCS meet.
Bennett’s set a new PR, finishing the 5K in a time of 16 minutes, 42.8 seconds.
Also in action in Fresno, Fortuna’s Collin Stockwell placed just three spots behind Bennett in 76th.
Stockwell is also a junior and timed a 16:44.7, just two seconds back of his league rival.
Stockwell’s time was a season best.
