The Ferndale Mustangs will get the opportunity to defend their AAA title in youth football, after qualifying for the championship game with a 26-13 win over Eel River on Sunday.

The Mustangs, who are 7-1 on the season, are the No. 1 seeds in the AAA bracket, and will compete for the championship against No. 3 Del Norte Gold at the Redwood Bowl next Sunday.

The championship is one of three Six Rivers Youth Football Conference deciders that will take place on Sunday, along with the single-A and AA championship games.

Both Ferndale and Del Norte will have two teams competing for a championship.

The Del Norte AAA team got the better of No. 2 McKinleyville in its semifinal this past weekend, running out to a 6-0 win in a low scoring affair.

In the AA semifinals, No. 1 Eureka got the better of Hoopa 14-7, while No. 2 Ferndale beat Redwood 24-12.

In the single-A semifinals, No, 1 Eel River improved to 8-0 on the season with a 26-13 win over Redwood, while No. 3 Del Norte knocked off No. 2 Ferndale 20-12.

This coming Sunday’s single-A championship starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the AA at noon and the AAA decider at 2:30 p.m.
