It’s homecoming week at Eureka High, with the football team hosting rivals Fortuna on a rare Saturday night showdown.

The homecoming festivities get under way on Thursday with the hall of fame induction ceremony in the high school cafeteria at 7 p.m.

This year’s class features four former Eureka standouts, Duane Petersen, Tony Adan, Ana Vainuku and Max Hooper.

Petersen’s career as four-sport coach and AD at the school spanned 36 years, while Adan graduated in 1994 after an impressive career in both football and track and field.

Adan was named league MVP as a lineman in football and went on to star for College of the Redwoods and New Mexico State.

Vainuku, who graduated in 2000, played three sports for the Loggers, excelling in volleyball, basketball and track and field.

Vainuku was an H-DNL champion in the 100 meters, the 200 m, the shot put and as a member of the 4x100m relay team, qualifying for the state championships.

Hooper, who graduated in 1977, was a standout football player and wrestler for the Loggers, finishing with a very impressive overall record of 52-9 on the mats, including 38 career pins.
