The Fortuna girls took care of business with an emphatic 8-0 win at St. Bernard’s in H-DNL girls soccer on Wednesday evening, remaining undefeated in 13 games this season.

With the win, the Huskies remain on top of the league standings with just three games remaining.

In other games on Wednesday, the Eureka girls remained in the thick of the chase for a league crown with a 13-0 win at home to South Fork.

In boys action, league leaders Fortuna also remained undefeated in league play with a 9-1 win at St. Bernard’s, while Eureka got back to winning ways with a 3-2 win over South Fork.

The Del Norte boys also won, defeating McKinleyville 5-3.

Aubrie Hall and Kallia Yang each finished with a hat trick as the Huskies got back to winning ways after Saturday’s dramatic tie against Eureka.

With the win, the Huskies are now 8-0-1 in the H-DNL with three games remaining, including key matches against Eureka and Arcata next week.

Sarah Killfoil added two goals in Wednesday’s win, while fellow junior Nyah Cacren continued to impress alongside her in the center of the field.

“We had great contributions all the way around,” head coach Kathleen Lynch said.

Defensively, junior Sarah Hohman had another big game anchoring the unit, while back-up goalie Kelsie Hall took advantage of her game time and impressed between the posts.

The Crusaders battled the Huskies in wet conditions for much of the game, before the visitors scored five late goals to pull away.

And they did so against a Fortuna team that is finding its feet late in the season.

“Fortuna played well,” St. Bernard’s head coach Brian Dunlap said. “Especially in the first half. They were sharper than they were down in Fortuna when we played them.”

The Crusaders, to their credit, turned in a solid effort against the six-time defending league champions, with Joseph Luna providing one of the highlights of the season for St. Bernard’s with a beautiful goal.

Luna took possession in the corner and moved toward goal, netting at the near post with a wonderfully-place shot.

“The boys played really well,” Dunlap said.

SB goalie Ben Huynh, one of the busiest in the North Coast Section this year, made several impressive stops, while in front of him senior Justin Keffer had another stellar game in defense.

“That guy’s our MVP,” Dunlap said of Keffer.

No scoring details were available for Fortuna.

Del Norte 5, McKinleyville 3

The Warriors stretched their unbeaten league run to five straight with a two-goal win at McKinleyville.

Dustyn Huneke, Caleb Coke and Blake Vogt each scored for the Panthers, who dropped to 2-4-2.

No scoring details were available for Del Norte, which is now 4-3-1 in league play.
