California Highway Patrol release:
UPDATE, 10/16: On Oct. 15, 2019 at approximately 8 p.m. Ivan Soto, 20 years old of Santa Fe Springs, Louisiana, called CHP and turned himself in. Shortly after, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Marvin Rosa, 21 years old from Downey, California, turned him self in.
Both suspects were booked at the Humboldt County Jail without further incident.

Original Post: On Oct. 15, 2019 at approximately 4 p.m. CHP officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver Nissan Sedan traveling northbound on US 101 just south of the Hooker Creek exit. The Nissan failed to yield to the officer and continued at a high rate of speed northbound of SR 254 (Avenue of the Giants). The Nissan continued north on SR 254 through Miranda and turned right on Jay Smith Road. Approximately one half mile up Jay Smith Road the Nissan was abandoned and two Hispanic males fled the vehicle on foot and ran into the surrounding forest. The two males are believed to be in their early 20s, between 5’ 5” and 5’ 8” tall with a slim build. One was wearing a black T-shirt with camouflage shorts and the other suspect’s clothing is unknown. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate either suspect.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. If anyone has any information regarding the suspects, please call the CHP dispatch at 1-707-268-2000.
