The Arcata Tigers continued their unbeaten start to league play in both volleyball and tennis on Tuesday.

In volleyball, the Tigers traveled to Eureka and came away with a straight sets win, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20.

The victory lifts the Arcata girls to 3-0 in the Big 5, a huge turnaround from when they began league play 0-3 a year ago.

And even more impressive, all three wins have come in straight sets.

Maya Mircetich led the way with eight kills in the win, while teammate Avery Thornburgh added seven kills.

Lilli Bowman also continued her impressive start to league play, finishing with 10 digs and three aces, while Erin Lamphear had eight digs and five aces.

No statistics were available for Eureka.

In other Big 5 action on Tuesday, Fortuna defeated Del Norte, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 25-22.

Tigers go to 7-0 in tennis

The Arcata girls continued to roll in tennis, improving to 7-0 in league play with a 6-0 win over St. Bernard’s on Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles, Casey McAtasney defeated Jenny Yu, 6-1, 6-1, while at No. 2 singles, Sydni Sobota defeated Tracy Huong 6-1, 6-2.

Kendra Flint and Makayla Bernald each also won in singles play, defeating Anna Le and Kimberly Nguyen, respectively, in straight sets.

Aimee Reiner and Keona Gutierrez teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, while Bernald and Mckenzie Dodd won at No. 2 doubles.

The Tigers play at McKinleyville on Saturday.
