Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The McKinleyville girls will host Arcata on Thursday night with the Big 5 title up for grabs.

The Big 5 championship will be decided in volleyball on Thursday night, after both Arcata and McKinleyville each won their penultimate league games on Tuesday.

The two arch rivals will now meet at Mack High on the final night of the regular season with everything to play for.

Game time is 6:30 p.m.

The Tigers are unbeaten in the Big 5, improving to 7-0 with a straight sets win over Del Norte on Tuesday, a win that guarantees them at least a share of the title

The Panthers are 6-1, with their only loss coming at Arcata.

On Tuesday the Mack girls continued to roll with a straight sets win over Eureka, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12.

The two Heenan sisters were again instrumental in the win.

Junior Cameron Heenan led the way with nine kills and 10 digs, while senior Rian Heenan had an errorless night hitting and finished with eight kills and four blocks.

Lexi White also had a big night in the win with 29 assists and 16 digs, while Hailee Henry had eight aces to go with four kills and a couple of blocks.

Kylee Townsend added eight digs and four kills.

If Arcata wins on Thursday, the Tigers will claim the title outright, whereas a Mack win will see the two teams crowned co-champions.

If they are co-champions, there will be a playoff game on Saturday evening at McKinleyville at 6:30 p.m. to decide which team gets the automatic North Coast Section qualification that goes to the league champion.
