Nikki Star Owen was born on Jan. 24, 1990 in Eureka to Lloyd Owen Sr. and Angela Coleman. She left this world on Oct. 14, 2019 at the young age of 29. She was the sweetest baby with the biggest brown eyes. Her six siblings — five sisters and one brother — were so happy when she was born, even though she wasn’t a boy.

She was a proud member of the Yurok Tribe.

Nikki was such a kind person and would do anything to help someone in need. Her greatest accomplishment in life was bringing her beautiful daughter Ginger Mellon into this world with Kevin Mellon. Ginger was Nikki’s everything!

Nikki Star is survived by her daughter Ginger, grandparents Eugene and Billie Sue Coleman, grandpa Albert “Buster” Owen, parents Lloyd Owen Sr. and Angela Coleman, siblings Rebecca Donahue and partner Quentin,  Lloyd Owen Jr. and partner Windsong, Savannah Hodge and partner Tyson, Rosanna “Rosie” Mead and partner Brian, Betty Owen-Mead and partner Randall,  Falisha Carlson and partner Nikwich, and her husband Jesse McCovey sr. and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her grandma Betty H.Owen, sister Karrie and cousin Philip Cart Coleman.  She will be missed dearly by many!

“Shine bright, Nikki Star! Our beautiful brown-eyed angel!”
