It’s shaping up to be a competitive race in H-DNL girls golf this season, with little to separate the two frontrunners once again on Thursday.

Playing the second round of the league season, Arcata’s Avary Henry took top honors with a round of 82 at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course, four strokes ahead of McKinleyville’s Phoebe Sundberg.

Both, however, remain deadlocked in the season standings, seven strokes ahead of Phoebe’s younger sister and teammate Isabella Sundberg.

The younger Sundberg had the third best score of the day on Thursday, shooting an 89.

They were the only three golfers to break 100 on the day, with Eureka’s Marissa Highley (105) and Arcata’s Kate Plumley (106) rounding out the top five.

Next best was Arcata’s Brook Bisgrove (107), followed by Fortuna’s Leah Nelson (121), Gracie Betts (124) and Nevada Gomes (125), and Arcata’s Lexi Avila and Iris Coonrod, who each carded a 126.

Arcata showcased its depth by winning the team event for the second straight week with a 421, a full 50 strokes ahead of McKinleyville (471).

Fortuna capitalized on a good team showing to place third with a 502.

H-DNL action continues next Thursday at Beau Pre in McKinleyville.
