The College of the Redwoods men’s soccer team got its first win of the season on Friday, as the Corsairs secured a men’s and women’s home sweep for the first time in three years.

Having been close in their opening four games, the CR men got the breakthrough with a 2-1 win over Contra Costa.

Justice Evans and Richmond Miamen scored the goals for CR, which improved to 1-3-1 on the season.

It was perfect way to kick start a five-game home stand, and gives second-year head coach Kyle Van Dyke his first career win at the school.

The CR women defeated Mendocino 3-0.

Two former McKinleyville standouts were instrumental in the win, with Jaycee Morais netting twice and Grace Rosebrook once.

In football, College of the Redwoods won its home opener in double overtime, defeating Gavilan 32-29 on Saturday.

CR is now 1-1.
