A 39-year-old man from New York was arrested after leading Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies and Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase along the eastbound side of Highway 299 yesterday morning in a stolen Chevy Silverado.
A Sheriff’s deputy first attempted to stop the truck, driven by suspect Corey Eugene Hulbert, at 9:25 a.m., after noticing the truck had been reported stolen out of Eureka that same day.
“The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued,” Lt. Sam Williams of the HCSO told the Outpost.
The CHP subsequently took command of the pursuit and disabled the truck with a spike strip.
Hulbert reportedly exited the disabled truck and fled into the nearby woods, where Sheriff’s deputies later located him and placed him under arrest.
Hulbert was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on narcotics and stolen vehicle charges.
