Toya “Toyita” Irene Petersen went to Heaven Tuesday, September 3, at 4:45 in the morning. Toyita was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 16, 1971. She would have been 48 on the 16th.

We came to Humboldt County from Mexico on December 11, 1975 and she has lived in Humboldt since then.

When Toyita was approximately 14 she developed schizophrenia. Our mom and stepdad took care of her every need until our Mom went to Heaven two years ago. Then our stepdad, George Batiste, was her caregiver. She went to the hospital last Friday and Saturday we found out she had terminal lung cancer. We are grateful she didn’t suffer long.

Toyita will be dearly missed by all her loved ones. She was so caring. She was a mother hen, often saying she raised her nieces and nephew.

She loved God, children, Betty Boop, her cat Tigre and coffee. She also loved to read the Bible. She is now in the loving arms of those that went before her: Our Mom Toya Petersen Batiste, Our Dad James Petersen, our little brother Jorge Batiste Arellano, Our Grandma Mama Bruna and many Aunts and uncles and cousins.

She is survived by: Our step-dad George Batiste Jr., Siblings: Manuel Petersen, wife Christy, Jaime Petersen, Jessie Petersen, Eva “Marie Petersen Acosta, husband Gabino Acosta, Henry Petersen and Charles Petersen. Nieces and nephews: Lisa Hayden, late husband Jason Proctor, Forrest Hayden, Amber Hayden, husband Allie Morris, Crystal Hayden, husband Carlos Estrada, Jose Aguilar, Diego Aguilar, wife Alexandra, Illyanna Proctor, Cruz Proctor, Judah Hayden, Jade Petersen, Jasmine Petersen, Ezra Hayden, Daniel Hayden, Aaryln Morris, Ina Morris and unborn baby Morris, King Estrada, Kiki Estrada, K’ehniwh Estrada and Xitlalli Aguilar, plus many aunts and uncles and cousins in Mexico and here.

Toyita will be loved and remembered forever.

Rest in peace, my little hermanita.

Graveside sevices will be some time next week at Oceanview Cemetery. Please call me, Marie, at 707-362-4470 for date and time. All who knew her are more then welcome to attend.

A Gofundme account has been established for Toya’s burial costs in the name of Eva Petersen. Also donations may be sent to Coast Central Credit Union to an account for George Batiste. All donations will be appreciated. Last but not least our family would like to thank everyone at the St. Joseph ER and PCU 2nd floor for all there loving attention and care.

Dr. Shen went up and beyond to comfort and help her. So did all the other doctors and nurses.
