College of the Redwoods football lost its first game of the season on Saturday, falling 51-34 at Monterrey Peninsula.

Quarterback Brody Lucero, who is back after missing most of last season through injury, threw for five touchdowns in the loss, three of them to Jamari Sweet.

Marcus Finney, a former Eureka Logger, and Fabian Bautista each also had a TD catch.

In soccer, meanwhile, the CR men’s team dropped back-to-back road games this weekend, losing 8-2 to Cabrillo and 7-1 at Foothill.

Arturo Lemas scored a goal in each game, with Donty Thompson also netting against Cabrillo.

Tyrees Arana assisted both of Lemas’ goals, with Eric Olea assisting on Thompson’s strike.

The CR women’s soccer team was also in action this weekend, falling 4-0 to Santa Rosa.
