Security footage provided by Joe Haddadin.
A burglar was caught on camera breaking into the Funky Monkey pizza restaurant and arcade in Fortuna on Sunday.
Business owner Joe Haddadin told the Outpost that the footage shows the suspect breaking into the restaurant at 11:17 p.m. and immediately dragging a change machine out the front door.
“He broke the glass to the front door and walked directly to the machine,” Haddadin said. “He knew what he was doing. He took the machine and left within 50 seconds.”
The machine has since been recovered, but Haddadin said that the thief got away with roughly $800 in bills from the machine.
“He took the paper money and left about $40 in quarters,” he said.
A police report was filed yesterday, but Haddadin said that no suspects have been arrested at this time. The Outpost reached out to the Fortuna Police Department for more information on the crime, but has not immediately heard back.
Due to the ongoing epidemic, Haddadin said that he’s had to reduce his store hours, and now only serves carryout orders from 4 to 9 p.m. daily.
“It’s just unfortunate that someone would do this in this kind of time,” he said.
Despite the ongoing financial crisis caused by COVID-19, Haddadin said that he’s still managed to give back to the community by donating pizzas to local hospital workers every night this month.
