Frances
(Fran) Marie Prescott rested peacefully when she passed from this
world on April 4, 2020. She was surrounded by her family in the
comfort of her home when the Lord chose to take her to heaven.
Fran was born on December 27, 1938 in San Bernardino to Harold and Marie Cooper. Her family soon moved to Southern Oregon where she spent most of her early years in Cottage Grove and developed a fondness for the area and numerous memories of adventures with her two sisters Donna and Betty. The family later moved to Petrolia, where she and her sister Betty boarded in town and attended Ferndale High School. It was evident that she truly enjoyed her high school years as she shared stories over time. She was active in sports, the captain of the volleyball team, and an aggressive softball player. She developed many life-long friendships. Upon graduating, she met the love of her life, Charles (Bill) William Prescott, who was stationed at the Centerville Naval Station. Shortly after getting married, the two moved to Salt Lake City, UT, the home of Bill’s family. They lived there for 10 years where they started their own family.
They returned to Humboldt County where their time together ended abruptly when Bill was killed in a work-related logging accident. Fran found herself a widow and single mother of five young children at the age of 32. She was the greatest mother and deeply devoted to her children. Fran worked hard to create the life she wanted for her family through perseverance, kindness and faith. Raising her children to value integrity, hard work, and family.
Later in life, Fran married Bill Yocom. They shared several years together spending time working in their yard, birdwatching and enjoying the children and grandchildren in their lives. She cherished her family and friends and looked forward to sharing a cup of coffee with a friend, spending the day with one of her children, attending sporting events for her grandchildren, or reading a book to her great granddaughter. Holidays and celebrations were huge events around Fran’s house with Christmas being her favorite holiday. She once had five Christmas trees decorated throughout her home. She treasured the family weddings and graduations.
Fran had a passion for antiques and worked alongside her close friend, Rolla Krebs, in the industry for many years. She was also known to never pass up a garage sale and had a knack in bartering for the best deal. Fran was an avid bowler and was part of a league for good portion of her adult life. She was a huge admirer of Elvis Presley and a fan of the San Francisco Giants. She had a large collection of Elvis memorabilia and attended many Elvis tribute shows with family and friends, where she displayed overzealous enthusiasm his music. She shared her love of baseball with her son, Chuck, grandson, Garrett and granddaughter, Karly. The four of them spent much time together cheering on the Giants. The family will cherish the memories of the trips to San Francisco to watch the home games.
Fran was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill Prescott, parents Harold and Marie Cooper, sister Donna Reed, and many in-laws.
She is survived by her children Darcy Prescott-Balke and spouse Kevin Balke, Chuck Prescott and life partner Bobbi Jo Parker, Linda Prescott and fiancé Mark Schaffner, Christy Prescott, and Cindy Prescott-Aust and spouse Ken Aust. Grandchildren Ashley, Brandon, Jakob, Melissa, Karly, Dylan, and Garrett. Great grandchildren Kinsley, Bradisen, and Easton and newest great granddaughter born just two weeks before her passing, Harper. She is also survived by her sister Betty Silva, former husband William Yocom, brother-in-law Glen Armstrong and many nieces and nephews.
Fran will be buried with her forever love, Bill Prescott, in Salt Lake City. Due to the COVID-19 virus precautions, there will be no celebration of life at this time. When the crisis is over, a gathering will be planned to honor Fran.
Many thanks to the nursing staff and palliative care team at St. Joseph Hospital, and Hospice of Humboldt.
Fran played many roles in her life, but the one she held most sacred was that of a mother.
