In memory of Rick Gordon Voight
April 1, 1947 — April 21, 2020

Aged 73, passed on Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. at his home with his loving wife Brenda Kay Voight, his youngest boy Charles Nelson Voight and his daughter-in-law Brook Ann Kottre.

In Orick, where he raised his two boys, he spent his days fishing and being around old-time locals who were like family and his own little family. He was a cook for two local businesses that are now closed (the Palms Cafe and the Valley Pantry). He was born in Eureka at St. Joseph’s Hospital, attended Fortuna High, but got his G.E.D in the Army in the 1960s.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Voight; his sons Ricky Voight and Charles Voight, who took care of Rick along said his girlfriend Brook Kottre; his siblings Gene Voight, Chuck Voight, Tami Voight and Sharon Voight.

Rick also had kids and friends he thought of as blood. He was always an uncle or a father to the kids that came into his life, never just a friend, such as Alicia and Ross Nelson and their amazing boys Gene, Ross, Anthony, Jason Nelson.

Also the Bastyns – Shane, Willie, Shawnshey Bastyns.

Also Justin Carr and many more young men and woman.

He also leaves behind three furry granddogs he held near and dear to his heart Lily (cat), Lady and Maya (dogs).

Many, many, more family members – nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandchildren.

He will be joining his parents, Mildred Voight and Raymond Voight; his brothers Tom Voight, David Voight; his son Roy (“Roy Boy”); and an uncle Roy Voight.

He will be missed. His heart’s always been in Orick and his soul will live on forever

Rest in peace, Rick.

“The old man’s down the road” — John Fogerty.
