On August 8, 2020, at about 4:45 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department
responded to a business on the 400 block of First Street in Eureka for the report of an
audible burglary alarm activation. The alarm company contacted the business owner
who viewed surveillance and confirmed a burglary had occurred and an unknown male
was still inside.
Whitten.
Once on scene, officers could see a male walking inside of the closed business. Officers
made verbal commands for the male to exit but the male failed to comply. After several
warnings, officers entered the building and located the male hiding in an interior office
space. The male was identified as Dustin Whitten (32 of Eureka).
After reviewing video surveillance, it was determined Whitten was passing
miscellaneous business equipment out of a broken window to an unknown person
waiting outside. Officers were able to locate and return all stolen equipment.
