Grant
Morgan Gilkison was born April 5, 1963 in Roseburg, Oregon to Gary
and Adrian Gilkison (Allen). He passed away on August 22, 2020 in
his sleep at his home on Camp Creek in Orleans. He lived a good
portion of his life childhood in his hometown of Orleans. He
later graduated from Jacoby Creek Elementary and then Arcata High
School. After highschool he earned his associates at College of the
Redwoods and moved to Sacramento and worked in a range of careers
from travel agent, flight controller, to former Comcast Financial
Analyst.
Grant moved home in 2008 and dedicated his life to food security, tribal land rights, and environmental activism. He organized numerous events that brought together tribal peoples from up and down the Klamath basin in the name of tradition, culture, and tribal land stewardship. Grant also dedicated his life to his two sons and it was his greatest joy to organize events for them and to support their goals as young Native men. He struggled with his health in later years, but always insisted on moving forward with his goals as an organizer, a father, and as a community member.
Grant was predeceased by his grandparents Orvel and Mayme Alllen and S.N. Gilkison and Alice Gilkison, his father Gary Gilkison, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is surived by his sons Te-geen and Gary (Hoss) Albers-Gilkison, his mother Adrian Gilkison, his brother Alan (Marci) Gilkison of Turlock, and his sister Sherlee (Kevin Wilder) of Orleans. He also leaves behind his Aunt Penny Rue of Sutherlin, Oregon, Floyd Allen of Eureka, many cousins, and many nephews and nieces. He was Uncle Grant to many. He also will be missed by many friends who became like family to him. Grant, we will never forget you.
