On Monday, August 31 at 9:16 a.m., Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to report of a
structure fire originating from a detached garage on the 200 block of Long Street in Eureka.
Crews responded to the scene and found heavy smoke showing from a garage unit and shed
accessed through an alleyway. The first engine on scene initiated fire attack while the
following engine set up a water supply from the fire hydrant down the street.
Due to a quick response, crews obtained fire control within 20 minutes. Damage to the
shed and garage including two vehicles inside is estimated to be around $130,000.
However, all surrounding structures were saved and no one was injured.
The incident was terminated at 10:50 a.m., however, crews will remain on scene until
approximately 11:50 a.m. to wrap up and perform an initial investigation.
The cause of the
fire is undetermined at this time.
Humboldt Bay Fire would like to remind the public to install and regularly test fire/smoke
alarms in your garage as well as your home. If you see or smell smoke, or hear an alarm,
call us at 9-1-1 and get out quickly.

Fire erupted this morning in an alley-facing garage near the intersection of C and Long streets. Humboldt Bay Fire responded and got the blaze under control. Spokesperson Amy Conlin, who is at the scene, tells the Outpost that there were no injuries and the cause is not yet known.
PG&E crews showed up to inspect the charred garage. Conlin says she expects to release more information this afternoon.
