California Highway Patrol press release: 

On 12-16-2020, at approximately 1 p.m., the Humboldt Area CHP was notified of a vehicle which Caltrans workers located off the roadway on SR-299, west of the East Fork Campground. Officers responded to the scene and located a 2004 Dodge SUV which, for unknown reasons, had traveled off the south roadway edge and overturned down the embankment. The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, had suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel on scene. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Humboldt County Coroner’s office.

It is unknown exactly when this collision occurred and it is unknown if alcohol and/or weather were a factor in this collision.
