James
Charles Paquin — “Jim” — a loving father, brother, friend, and
social activist, passed away on February 20, 2020.
Jim is survived by his loving family, including his beloved companion, his dog Maggie; his daughters and son-in-laws, Danielle and Chris Verdugo and Yvette and Sean Lewis; a grandson, Wilkie, and a granddaughter on the way; Brothers and sisters, Sharon and Steve Gilmore, Joanne and David Sproul, Philip and Sandy Paquin, Barbara Paquin, Jeffery Paquin, and Clarke Paquin; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
Jim was born May 27, 1947, in Schenectady, N.Y. to Jean Boyer Paquin and George Paquin. Jim served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, which impacted him for the rest of his life. He was driven by compassion and co-founded the non-profit organization AHHA (Affordable Homeless Housing Alternatives) in Humboldt County. He also supported various organizations including PARC (People Action Rights Community) in Eureka. He spent his time and energy fighting social and economic inequality, including documenting the struggle on Access Humboldt television and writing for The Humboldt Edge.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A celebration of life memorial will be planned for a later date.
