Bob was born on March 31, 1943 and raised in Evanston, Illinois. He enjoyed many summers in Door County, Wisconsin growing up with his brother, Don.

After graduating from Valparaiso University, he joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to the countryside of Peru. He assisted the peoples with farming techniques and water sources. Upon his returning to the US, he and his then wife, Faith, welcomed their only child, Laurel, in 1968.

After several years of selling wine in the Chicago area, they moved to historic Galena, Illinois where he opened an antique shop. He opened spaces for others to set up their treasures and share their love of antiques. Soon he also became the director of the Galena Chamber of Commerce.

Many life long friends were made during those years. After their divorce, he met his life partner, Judy Schuldt and in 1985 they moved to California along with Judy’s daughter, Erin. He again bought and sold antiques as well as becoming the bar manager at the Bon Gusto (now the Eagle House). After leaving the Bon Gusto, he became the bar manager at Baywood Golf and Country Club, again making life-long friendships. The last 20 years, he went back to his first love – selling wine as an independent contractor with several wine brokers. As a member of the Humboldt Flea Market he also continued to sell antiques specializing in printed items.

He was grandpa to Brianna and Brian Gordon of Virginia and Grecia Ortiz of Eureka and best friend to his fur baby, Buster.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Don. He died on January 31, 2020 after battling bone cancer.

Thank you to Hospice of Humboldt for their loving and competent care. Please think of them if you can donate to a noble cause. There will be a celebration of life on March 31 at the 707 Bar beginning at 4 p.m. He spent many an hour there solving the world’s problems with his cronies. If you can’t join us, please raise a glass of wine in his honor.
