Melvin L. Daniels
Jr. known as Jay to his loved ones, passed away at his home on the
morning of February 16, 2020 at the age of 61 due to M.S.A. (Multiple
Symptom Atrophy).
Jay was born in San Mateo to Melvin Daniels Sr. and Geraldine Daniels on Easter Sunday April 6, 1958. He leaves behind his wife and love of his life of 44 years Tammy Daniels, sons Jason (Wendy) and James Sr., grandsons Jaden, Jayce, and James Jr., brother Dennis Daniels, sisters Carolyn Hamilton, Christine Winters, Anita Williams, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents Mel and Gerri Daniels, and sisters Linda Lovejoy and Donna Bolt.
At the age of five, Jay’s family left San Mateo and put down roots in Eureka. As a youngster he liked playing sports, riding bikes with his buddies, and was a part of the R.O.T.C. program in high school which he was very proud of.
Jay would go on to marry his life long best friend Tammy Behler. The two were inseparable. He loved music and they would frequently jump in the car with friends and head out of town for a concert. He enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with his boys, just a few of many of his favorite summer pass times.
Jay was literally a jack of all trades. There wasn’t anything that this man could not fix or make better than new, but his passion was cars — hot rods more specifically. This passion would lead him into a career in auto body repair and painting that would span more than 20 years before ending his time in the workforce as a log truck driver for Wayne Bare Trucking.
One of his favorite things to do was spending time with his sons, grandsons, and nephews teaching them how to paint cars and work on motors. Jay was a loving, caring, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend. A family man in every sense. He will be deeply missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace, we love you.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
