The Arcata Tigers will host several games in boys basketball this weekend, as they finalize preparation for next week’s Big 5 tip-off.
First up, the Arcata boys will play a triple-header against Hoopa on Friday, with the freshmen getting the action under way at 3:30 p.m., followed by the JVs at 5 and varsity at 6:30.
A busy weekend continues on Saturday afternoon, when the varsity team plays Foothill at 4 p.m.
The varsity and JV teams have enjoyed plenty of early-season success, with the elder boys 9-5 after closing out last weekend’s Marin Catholic tournament with three straight wins.
After opening the holiday tournament with a loss to Mission Prep, the Tigers rattled off three straight victories over Westmoor, Terra Linda and Urban.
Arcata got the better of Urban 63-58 on Monday to claim the tournament consolation.
Garrett Hall scored a team-high 21 points in the win, while Marcus Bensen finished with 15 points, Niko Zambas 14 and Brandon Jackson-Bento eight.
The Tigers open league play next Friday at home to McKinleyville.
The Warriors open the Little 4 at St. Bernard’s, also next Friday.
The Arcata JV team, meanwhile is 8-2, according to MaxPreps.
The Tigers have won five of their last six games, including beating Eureka (twice), McKinleyville and St. Bernard’s.
