Former Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey has begun his term as Fortuna’s interim Police Chief. Mr. Downey has agreed join the Fortuna Police Department as Police Chief on an interim basis while the city completes the recruitment of a permanent Police Chief following the retirement of Chief Dobberstein. The City hopes to have a new chief hired within the next 3-6 months.
The local community and news media will have an opportunity to meet with Chief Downey at our next “Coffee with the Chief” scheduled on February 20th. This event will give the community the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the new chief in a relaxed atmosphere, while enjoying a free cup of coffee.
We invite community members to drop in any time during the two-hour event (8am to 10am) to meet and chat with our ‘interim’ Chief of Police and ask questions. And, of course, come and enjoy a free cup of coffee.
