Police in Fairfield, Calif. recovered a handgun yesterday that was reported stolen out of Humboldt County a quarter of a century ago.
An officer with the Fairfield Police Department found the stolen .25 caliber pistol while searching a car that was initially stopped for not having license plates.
Twenty-four-year-old suspect Alfred Fairley of Fairfield was arrested for possession of the stolen gun, which police say was loaded at the time of his arrest. He was also arrested for allegedly giving the officer a false name and is being held at the Solano County Justice Center Detention Facility on $58,333 bail.

On 7/19, Officer Farr made a traffic stop on a car for having no license plates. The driver had no identification and gave a false name. A check of the car’s vehicle identification number showed the registration had been expired since January of 2019.
Officer Farr detained the driver and searched the car, finding a loaded .25 caliber pistol in the center console. A check of the gun revealed it had been reported stolen in Humboldt County in 1995.
The driver was subsequently identified as 24-year-old Alfred Fairley of Fairfield. He was booked into Solano County Jail for firearms violations and false personation of another.
