Joyce Marie (Hancorne) Tracy was born on February 16, 1933 and began her journey home on July 19, 2020, when she passed in her home in Hoopa, surrounded by loved ones.

Joyce was a proud Yurok tribal member from Weitchpec and was known for her warm, kind and nurturing spirit. She graduated from Hoopa Valley High School, later studied cosmetology, and eventually made her career of over 30 years as a beloved teacher aide at Hoopa Elementary School.

In 1955 she married the love of her life, the late Lawrence Ira Tracy, and raised their three children in Weitchpec and Hoopa.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Edith (Nix) Hancorne, and father, George Hancorne; her husband, Lawrence Ira Tracy; her sister, Phyliss Parker; her daughter, Sherri Tracy; and her son George Tracy Sr. She is survived by her son Larry Tracy; granddaughters Tara, Morgan and Edith Tracy; grandsons: George, Cory, Daniel and Lawrence Tracy; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

A wake will be held on Wednesday July 29, 2020 at her residence in Hoopa at 7 p.m. with private internment and memorials to follow. Thank you to Dr. Eva Smith, Dr. George Portie Blake and the many others who visited, prayed and cared for Grandma Joyce over the past few months.
