Mark Elwood Hancock died at his home in Eel Rock on July 15, 2020 after a 30-year struggle with diabetes.

Mark was born Dec. 14, 1945 in Thomaston, Georgia to Harvey E. and Retta M. Hancock. The family relocated to California in 1955, where Mark was raised in southern Humboldt along with his three sisters — Sarah, Barbara and Doris. He graduated from South Fork High School in 1964.  He worked in construction for several years locally, and, then moved to Montana where he earned a B.S. degree at the University of Montana in 1984. He worked in computer programming for 11 years and in 1992 he returned to SoHum, where he lived out his life.

He leaves behind Suzie Woodward, his partner of 18 years; his son Daniel Hancock (Lois) of Colorado; his beloved niece Linda Cole (Mike) of Arizona; his two remaining sisters, Barbara Ziegler (Frank) of Oregon and Doris Thompson (Bill) of California; plus relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Mark had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and a loving heart.

As he wished there will be no services. We love you, Mark. You are and will be terribly missed. Cremation arranged through Ayres Family Cremation in Eureka.
