Nancy R. Trine was born in Santa Rosa on March 28, 1945 to Hortense Lucas and Harold Trine, and ended her five year battle with Corticobasal Degeneration by walking, talking and dancing with the angels on May 31, 2020.

Nancy grew up in Alderpoint, and graduated from South Fork High School, went to Empire Business College in Santa Rosa, and later went and got an AS from College of the Redwoods.  Nancy worked for the Humboldt Elections Office and then Hilfiker Pipe Company until she retired.

Nancy was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, helped with the youth groups, and community events. She enjoyed being involved in The Back Country Horsemen club where she loved being a part of catered rides and camp outs. She was proud to become a wilderness rider where she spoke at schools about “leave no trace”.

Nancy had a smile that lit up a room, and her sense of humor found joy in everyday happenings.

She saw life as a glass half full, take it by the horns, and don’t let age, gender, or fear determine the path of your dreams.  She taught her family the importance of empathy, compassion, fairness, and to love your neighbor.

In the fall of 2015 Nancy was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration.  She fought the disease with grace and tenacity.

She is preceded in death by her mother Hortense Lucas, father, Harold Trine, her brother Edwin Jewett, and sister Margaret Lasser and niece Leann Grant.

She is survived by her two daughters Natalie Potter (Jerry Rainer), and Amanda Velazquez (Juan Velazquez- Herrera) and confidant George Bearden, her grandchildren Jordan Knoefler, Anthony Knoefler and Loerne Potter, and Eva and Teresa Velazquez.  Her nieces Cathy Wyatt, Tina Gitlin, Ila Drummond, and Nanita Jewett, nephew Orval Jewett, and honorary daughter Margaret Toste.

The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Humboldt for the wonderful care they gave Nancy and the support that they gave to the family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks to give donations to Hospice of Humboldt or to Corticobasal Degeneration research at UCSF.
