On June 21, 2020, at about 9:20 a.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the McKinleyville area conducted a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations in the 1600 block of Central Avenue.
The driver, 39-year-old Richard Barry Moon Jr., was found to have an active felony Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) warrant. Two others in the vehicle were briefly detained during the deputy’s investigation and were released at the scene.
During a probation search of the vehicle, deputies located one loaded shotgun, one rifle reported stolen during a recent burglary in the Glendale area, approximately 196 grams of heroin, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and $6,000 cash.
Upon further investigation, deputies conducted a probation search of a residence associated with Moon in the 1900 block of C Avenue in McKinleyville. Within the residence, deputies located an additional firearm, a stun gun and pepper spray.
Moon was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), person prohibited in possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)), carrying a loaded firearm in a public place (PC 25850(a)), possession of a controlled substance for sale (HS 11351), transportation/sale of a controlled substance (HS 11352(a)), possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)), felon in possession of tear gas (PC 22810(a)), possession of a stun gun (PC 22610(a)) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)(2)), in addition to a no-bail felony PRCS warrant.
