Manny Hernandez
November 26, 1973 - March 6, 2020
Manny Hernandez passed away peacefully, at home, from a hard battle of colon cancer.
Manny was born in Guatemala on November 26, 1973 to Carlos and Suzanne Hernandez. At the age of 3, Suzanne brought Manny and his sister, Jennifer, back to Rio Dell. Manny traveled every summer, from the age of 8, to Guatemala to spend time with his father and family. He attended Rio Dell Elementary and Fortuna High. Throughout high school he worked at C & C Market. After high school, he attended College of the Redwoods. Manny worked for Redwood Reliance Peterbilt for several years as a welder, where he fabricated endumps and worked on trailers and trucks. After leaving Peterbilt, he worked for Pape Material Handling, where he was a mechanic and worked on forklifts, pallet jacks and anything else that was broken.
In 1995, he met his wife, Michelle, of 24 years. They have three lovely children, Caitlin, Mollie and Cody. Manny loved the outdoors. He loved to go camping and fishing with his family. Manny loved to go hunting and cutting firewood with his best friend Damian Bertain. Manny enjoyed many family trips to Oregon and San Francisco. Manny was also an avid barbecuer. He loved to have get togethers and cook for everyone.
Manny never missed any of his children’s sporting events, fundraisers or school activities. Manny also loved soccer. He enjoyed coaching his children’s soccer teams and all of the kids and parents along the way, who are still apart of our lives today.
Manny truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was the best son, brother, friend, husband and father anyone could ask for. He was a great listener, had the biggest heart and would help anyone who needed anything. He will be missed by everyone.
Manny is survived by his wife Michelle, children Caitlin, Mollie, and Cody, mother Suzanne, sister Jennifer (Shane), sister-in-law Kim (Kevin) along with many other nieces, nephew, cousins, uncles and aunts.
The family would like to thank The Cancer Treatment Center of America, in Arizona, and Hospice of Humboldt for taking care of Manny.
The family would like to invite all who knew Manny to his Celebration of Life that will take place on Sunday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at the Fortuna Fire Hall 320 S. Fortuna Blvd.
