Clark Gerald “Gunny Sack” Stevens passed away April 30, 2020 due to complications from pneumonia. He was 69. Gunny was born to Gladys “Sog” and George “Ski” Stevens on Oct 4, 1950. He was only 3 months old when his dad died in an auto accident. He never got to know him. 

Gunny first met Beverly “Bubbles” Welsch in 1969 and they were married in January 1976. He began a career in law enforcement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Technical Assistance and Training. He completed OTAT training in March of 1981. He continued his training at CR in June 1981 where he completed 40 hours in Penal Code 832. In October 1981 he was appointed Deputy of the Department of Fish and Game where he became a fish cop on the Klamath. He loved being on the river, driving his boat. He later returned to a lifelong career in the timber industry, where he was known as one of the greatest skidder operators and landing chasers around, it was something he was extremely proud of. 

After his retirement from the timber industry, he enjoyed toiling around the garden and growing the biggest pumpkins around. He found a love of bamboo and grew a special patch that he used for everything. Gunny loved to read and would read everything that he could. He enjoyed sitting with Faye and helping her and the others learn to read.

Gunny is preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys, brothers Clarence and Gordon, Uncles, Virgil Green Sr, Charles, William and Ralph “Goofy”, Aunts Mary, Elizabeth and Flo

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly “Bubbles” Stevens, daughters, Janaye and Stacey (Jeremy) and his son Adam (Samantha) His grandchildren Hunter, Stephen, Jaron, Rylie, Sophia, Eli, and Waylon. His extended family, Faylene, Jake, Annie and Jewel. Brother Frank Surber. Aunts and Uncles, Chris Peters, Billy Peters, Bertha Peters, Donna Matilton, and Susan Burdick, his special friends, Virgil “Boogsie” Green, David Maloney, Timmy Thompson, Junky Gray, Hootie Lewis, Carlton Gibbens, Rocky Erickson and numerous other relatives.

Per Gunny’s last wishes there will be no funeral services, he will be laid to rest with his dad in the Wautec cemetery. The family will take one last fishing trip with him on his beloved Klamath river and eat his favorite KFC, before returning him home.

Silverback gorilla, I’m going to miss you so much. Life will not be the same. I will continue to make you proud of us and make sure that your bride is taken care of. Until we meet again.
