Franklin Lewis Sr. was born to Manuel Lewis Sr. and Jane Jefferson
Lewis on April 2, 1937, and passed on May 10, 2020 at the age of 83.
He
was from a very large family consisting of 10 brothers and 3 sisters.
He
attended local schools and also Chemawa, where he learned many useful
trades.
Franklin
served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1957 –
1959.
He
lived almost his entire life in the Weitchpec and Hoopa area, where he
had a 40-year career in the local sawmills.
Franklin
is survived by three sons and three daughters — Carolyn Lewis, Frank Lewis
Jr., Gary Lewis, Nora Lewis, Fred Lewis and Linda Lewis Morgan; his
brother Gaylord Lewis Sr.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even a couple of great-great-grandchildren; and many
nieces, nephews and friends.
He
was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann Lewis McCovey; brothers Jimmy, Alfred, Robert, Harold (Joe Boy) Lewis; and sisters
Lucille, Nelda and Maxine.
Franklin will be interred at the Yurok Veterans Cemetery, but due to present conditions a memorial and gathering will be held at a later date to be announced.
