Eureka Police Arrest Two After Alleged Armed Robbery Near Alice Birney Campus
Press release from the Eureka Police Department:
On October 9, 2020, at about 10:54 p.m., officers with the Eureka
Police Department (EPD) responded
to the 700 block of Stewart Street for the report of an armed robbery that had just
occurred.
Watson.
Taylor.
The victim said
three males entered his trailer, struck him with a firearm, and took electronics and a
large quantity of bagged marijuana. The suspects fled in a white Chevrolet
Suburban and a black Dodge Charger. The victim identified one male as Shayne Taylor (41
of Eureka) and provided detailed descriptions of the others. The victim was
transported to the hospital with a moderate injury received during
the robbery.
While officers
were still on scene taking the report, an EPD officer located the
involved Dodge Charger
near Wabash and A Streets occupied by three males. Taylor, Conte Watson (41 of
Eureka), and Rajean Achane (37 of Eureka) were detained without incident. A large
quantity of marijuana suspected to have been taken during the robbery and a loaded
rifle were in plain view inside the vehicle.
Based on the
investigation, it appears Taylor and Watson were involved in the
robbery and the third
male is still outstanding. It was determined Achane was not
associated with the
incident, though was taken into custody on other violations and an
unrelated warrant. Taylor,
Watson, and Achane were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional
Facility.
