On September 26, 2020 in Eureka, Lewis Dallas Egger left this world, with wife and partner Jannette of 37 years by his side.

Dallas was born on August 13, 1951 to L.V. Egger and Gladys Mae (Hood) Egger in McRae, Georgia. He was born the second to the oldest of nine children. The family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon and at the age of 13 years old his family then moved to Eureka where he spent the remainder of his life.

All who knew Dallas knew him as a hardworking and dedicated family man who took pride in all that he did. He had a passion for working on (and purchasing) old cars. He also enjoyed traveling and taking family and friends camping and water skiing. Known as being the family Patriarch, he was always available and willing to lend a helping hand. Dallas held many jobs throughout his life, but his 35 plus years spent working as a Cat Operator at the Samoa Pulp Mill, was the one that he continued to talk about and where he met some of his lifelong friends. A special thank you to Gene Hanson, Richard Marks, and Max Emery for their continued friendship. Your visits and calls meant a lot to him. Dallas retired from the Pulp Mill just prior to the Mill closing in 2008, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Dallas had a kind and generous heart and loved to bless those he loved and cared about. After his retirement and still able to drive, he took much pleasure in showing up and surprising family and friends, at home or work, with a special delivery of mochas or donuts. Dallas was known to love his sweet treats, so it brought him great joy to share these with those he loved.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents L.V. and Gladys Egger, by his older brother Dale and younger sisters Bonnie, Belinda and Paulette. He is survived by his wife Jannette; two sons, Dean and Ryan; daughter Trina; and three grandkids – Ethan, Auden and Joy. He also leaves behind brothers Randy, Bill, Wally and Kenny, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Dallas’s niece, Maria, for being his chauffeur when he could no longer drive. Getting him out of the house and taking him to some of his favorite places was a huge blessing. To his brothers Bill and Randy, thank you for always willing to lend him a helping hand. Your frequent visits and time spent cleaning gutters, trimming trees, or building fences meant a lot to him and he always felt your love and dedication to him.

We would also like to thank Gladys Cardenas for her knowledge, help, and support in caring for him the last few weeks of his life and to Hospice for their sincere compassion and support. We appreciate all they did for him and our family.

Due to COVID no services are planned at this time.
