Southbound travelers, you catch a break: Caltrans has reopened Highway 101 north of Willits, following a couple of days of closure due to the Oak Fire, which burned much of the west side of the highway between Willits and the Covelo Road.

Oregon-bound travelers, you are still out of luck: Highway 199 is still closed between Hiouchi and the Oregon Border after a fast-moving fire there prompted evacuations along the Smith yesterday.

Up in Siskiyou County, Highway 96 is closed west of Happy Camp.

Highway 1 was closed just south of Piercy last night due to an overturned big rig, but it’s open again now if you’re looking to get to the Mendo Coast.
