Jeffrey “Jeff” Bryan Boydstun, father, grandfather, teacher, and
coach passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2020
surrounded by his loving family. He was 56 years young.
Jeff was born in Torrance, Calif. on June 13, 1964 to Charles and Sarah Boydstun. From a very young age, Jeff developed an affinity for the sport of football. His father, being a football coach and local teacher, had a profound effect on his academic and athletic development. Throughout Jeff’s athletic career, he was noted to be talented and gifted leader. After graduating from Edison High School in 1982, Jeff went on to play football at several different colleges under academic scholarships. Most notably, Jeff played for the University of Nebraska and was proud to be a Cornhusker. If you knew Jeff, you knew how big of a Husker fan he was.
In 1986, Jeff moved to Humboldt County to attend Humboldt State University and focus on starting his family. He soon graduated with his Bachelors Degree and Teaching Credentials. Jeff began his career at McKinleyville High School starting as a student teacher and walk-on football coach. It didn’t take long for him to build long-standing relationships and an unwavering reputation within the school district and community. Serving as a teacher, coach and confidant, Jeff taught many subjects including: Independent Study, Driver Education, Health, and Physical Education on both McKinleyville and Arcata High School campuses. His influence on his students and faculty alike, can be seen throughout the decades. Although he came across quiet and reserved, his passion for helping students be the most successful versions of themselves was something he took pride in. After almost three decades of teaching, it is safe to say that Mr. Boydstun has touched the lives of many people.
In his spare time, Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family as well as fishing, making fishing lures/rods, watching football games, highlight reels, and camping. Jeff will be remembered for his profound affect on this community, his generous personality, his quite demeanor and fierce love for family, football and fishing.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents Charles Bryan Boydstun and Sarah Ann Boydstun. He is survived by his significant other Debbie Arlene Boydstun; his children Kala Marie Myers, Matthew Bryan Wesley Boydstun, and Mitchell Bryan Charles Boydstun; son-in-law Keith Allen Myers; grandchildren Emerson Laura-Ann Myers and Easton Bryan James Myers.
A private viewing was held by family, but all are welcome to attend future outdoor arrangements for public celebration of life (following COVID-19 safety and social distancing guidelines).
