Vikki Ann Howard, 69, died September 5, 2020 in Eureka after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harry Howard and her daughters Sabre Stacey and Tara Howard and Beth Ann McCune. She is also survived by her brother John Stacey; nephew John Wasson and nieces Sarah Wasson and Kaycee Stacey; grand-nephew Gage Stacey; sister-in-law Anne Wasson and brother-in-law John Howard. She leaves many special lifelong friends including “granddaughter” Kaylin and Mama Lauren. She was preceded in death by her parents Brenda Breeze Johnson and Silas Monroe Stacey, and her brother James Stacey.
Born March 28, 1951, in Springfield, Missouri, Vikki earned an associate degree in computer programming and used that knowledge to build on her career. Vikki and Harry built many things together – their beloved family, their first home in Austin, Texas and a thriving boat company, WaveWalker Performance, of which she was especially proud.
Vikki kept her door open to her family and friends always taking time to cook a sumptuous meal and share her favorite outdoor cathedrals. A lifelong gardener, Vikki was known to have beautiful flowers and delicious organic fruits & vegetables.
She and Harry enjoyed traveling and meeting people. No one was a stranger to her and she spread her laughter and joy of life to everyone she met. Vikki instilled the importance of making the world a better place through environmentalism and equality to her daughters and to anyone willing to listen. As an animal lover, no animal ever passed her door unfed or unloved.
As a seasoned traveler, Vikki lived in many states and visited every beach she could. She found that California beaches gave her the greatest joy resulting in a move to her refuge in Eureka, a place of peace, fun and family. Vikki had a love for music spending many a night in Austin venues and she will be greatly missed by her many friends and local artists.
The family thanks the caring professionals at Hospice of Humboldt who helped her pass from this life in comfort and dignity, and to the many nurses who became her friends at St. Joseph’s. A private memorial service will be held later this month. Donations may be made to Sequoia Park Zoo or Hospice of Humboldt.
