From Inciweb’s page on the Red-Salmon Complex:

Current Situation

The Red Salmon Complex is comprised of the Red and Salmon fires that were started by a July 27 lightning storm. They are burning in rugged and remote country approximately 14 miles northeast of Willow Creek, CA, primarily within the Trinity Alps Wilderness on the Six Rivers National Forest. The Complex is currently 29,263 acres and 35% contained. There is a total of 716 personnel working the fire.

Smoke in and over the fire area has kept helicopters grounded most of the day. A high pressure system, along with smoke, is keeping a lid on active fire behavior. A spot fire is burning on the east side of the handline on the north end of Devils Backbone in an area of extremely steep terrain that is nearly impossible to safely access for suppression.

The Red and Salmon Fires are burning on the Klamath, Six Rivers, and Shasta-Trinity National Forests.  California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 is working closely with the Hoopa Valley Tribe, the Yurok and Karuk Tribes and local community liaisons. Drier air with dropping RH’s tonight may offer favorable conditions for firing operations.

Both fires are being managed for full suppression. Firefighting objectives reflect efforts to protect the cultural values and natural resources of the area. Minimum impact suppression techniques (MIST) guidelines are being implemented to preserve wilderness and cultural values.

Firefighter and public safety is always the top priority and we are implementing best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in all fire management practices.
