With evacuation warnings issued in southeastern Humboldt County, evacuation orders up in Gasquet and no end in sight to these devastating wildfires, evacuation centers are now being established.

Redwood Acres Fairgrounds CEO Ben Brown emailed the Outpost to say, “Redwood Acres is preparing to take in fire evacuees, both livestock and those who have an RV or are willing to camp. There is a chance that the Red Cross may want to set up a station.”

And Justine Ketola, publicist for the Mateel Community Center, said evacuees are welcome to take shelter in the hall in Redway.

“Beginning today, Wednesday, September 9th, the hall doors are open for those evacuating from fires,” Ketola said in an email. “The Mateel Community Center is located at 59 Rusk Lane in Redway. Small pets are welcome with leashes outside the hall; no pets are allowed inside the hall due to potential allergy reactions for some individuals.  For more information about the ongoing fire evacuation center located at the Mateel visit mateel.org.”
