Fortuna Police Department press release:
On Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at about 11:30 a.m., the Fortuna Police were made aware of a student in possession of a replica firearm at Fortuna Union High School. The Fortuna Police Department’s School Resource Officer collaborated with school administrators to locate the student and recover the replica firearm. The replica firearm was determined to be a BB gun. The responsible student was taken into custody at about 12:30 p.m. and was booked at the Juvenile Detention Facility due to the circumstances in which it was discovered. The Fortuna Police and school officials take these matters seriously and the student was taken into custody safely and without incident. There is no active threat at this time.
The involved juvenile’s identities are being withheld due to their status as minors. The Fortuna Police Department remains committed to public safety and transparency.
