Jennie Harvey passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021 after living with Alzheimers for 8 ½ years. She was born in Louisiana on June 4, 1939 to Bill and Audie Boyett and had lived in Humboldt County for seventy-three years, the past sixty-one years in Fortuna.

Jennie graduated from Fortuna High School in 1957 and immediately after graduation began to work at the new Redwood Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator, and she soon became the first Medical Record Librarian at the hospital. After the births of her daughter and son in the 1960’s, she stayed home to focus on her family. Once her children were in junior high school, she went back to work at Redwood Memorial Hospital as a medical records technician from 1979 to 1987, and she worked as a medical transcriptionist for Drs. Jutila and Brinckhaus at Fortuna Family Medical Group from 1988 until her retirement in 1992.

After retirement, Jennie and her husband Lawrence enjoyed traveling with their fifth-wheel trailer in the western states and visiting their two grandchildren in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jennie spent her final 4 ½ years being loved and cared for by the amazing staff at Sequoia Springs Senior Living Community in Fortuna.

Jennie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Lawrence, daughter Laurie (husband Lorin), granddaughter Darcy (husband Michael), grandson Nolan (fiancée Stephanie), sister Debbie (husband Wayne), and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Mark, her parents Bill and Audie, and her sister Helen.

A private burial service was held Dec. 3 at the William Barnwell cemetery in Blocksburg, California, and a memorial service open to all who knew Jennie will be on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at Cutten Community Church in Eureka (2020 Campton Rd). Memorial contributions can be made to an Alzheimer’s research association of your choice.
