Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Samantha Karges told the Outpost today that courthouse security discovered the weapon when 32-year-old Jonathan Lyndon Palmer passed his backpack through the courthouse X-ray machine at approximately 11:15 p.m.
“Palmer did have a concealed-carry weapons permit, however, that permit does not allow for the carrying of firearms into government buildings,” Karges said.
Palmer was booked into the Humboldt County Jail for possession of a gun inside a public building.
Palmer reportedly told officers that he was entering the courthouse to file paperwork on the third floor. His concealed-carry permit has subsequently been suspended.
