Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On Jan. 6, 2021, at about 3:40 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Cook Drive in Hoopa for the report of a gunshot victim.
Deputies arrived on scene and located a 40-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound. Deputies rendered aid until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. He is expected to survive his injuries.
Sheriff’s deputies are seeking Byron Dean Titus, age 29 of Hoopa, in connection to this case. Titus is described as an American Indian male adult, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Titus is believed to be armed and dangerous. If you see Titus, do not approach, but call 9-1-1.
This case is still under investigation and more information will be released when available and appropriate.
