On Jan. 8, 2021, at about 2:40 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the area of Myrtle Avenue and Mitchell Road, in the county’s jurisdiction of Eureka, conducted a vehicle investigation on a truck and cargo trailer parked in a dirt turnout along the road.

During their investigation, deputies learned that the cargo trailer had been reported stolen out of Crescent City. Inside the truck, deputies located two individuals asleep. Deputies contacted the occupants, one of which was later identified as Justin Edward Norton, age 32 of Eureka. Norton was found to have warrants for his arrest.

Norton was taken into custody and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on fresh charges of possession of a stolen vehicle (PC 496d(a)), in addition to his warrants for domestic violence charges (PC 273.5(a), 273(d)(a) and 273.6(a)) and driving on a suspended license (VC 14601.1(a)).

The stolen trailer was towed, and the second occupant of the vehicle was released at the scene.
