Billy Ivy was born in Grady, Arkansas to Pete and Maggie Ivy. They moved out to California when he was in second grade and ended up settling in Arcata. Billy attended Stewart School and graduated from Arcata High School in 1957. He worked at the Minor Theater during high school.

After graduating Billy then began working at Arcata Plywood and after getting married he started working at Georgia Pacific and Louisiana Pacific.

Bill met and married Elizabeth Ferreira on February 20, 1965. They lived upstairs in the apartments above the Minor Theater before they bought their first home in McKinleyville where their first daughter Colleen was born.

In 1968 they bought their forever home in the Arcata Bottoms. Soon after their second daughter Tammi was born and then the family was complete.

Bill and Liz loved to travel around the world with their favorite place being Maui which the family visited every other year.

Bill loved to spend his free time on the golf course. He was a member at Beau Pre Golf Course and Baywood Golf and Country Club. He had a collection of golf balls from each course that he played at.

Billy truly was a family man. He was always available to help others and always put his family first. He retired from LP at the age of 60 years old to stay home and be the full time caregiver for the love of his life Liz. After Liz passed dad spent his time with his daughters and their families. He traveled the states with his brother and his wife, attending grandkids sporting events, and most importantly living life happy. If you were lucky enough to have meet him you would have loved him almost as much as we all did.

Dad will be missed but never forgotten. His smile, laughter, and always being happy will live on forever in us.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Ivy, parents Pete and Maggie Ivy, sister Cecile “May” Quinn, and brother George “Vic” Ivy. Dad leaves behind daughter Colleen Heinig (Rick), and daughter Tammi Bartley (James). his grandchildren Christina Heinig (Daniel), Nicole Heinig (Steven), Rachel Heinig (Nicholas), Billy Bartley (Ashley), and Ivy Bartley. Also his great grandkids Camille Brady, Jamila Brady, Julian Brady, Landen Harris, Ava Harris, and Grace Bartley.

Bill’s celebration of life will be held at Paul’s Chapel in Arcata on Friday, July 8 at 10 a.m. following burial services at Ocean View Cemetery. The family asks in lieu of flowers to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association in support to stop the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
