Rose Burman Lawson
March 2, 1926-September 5, 2023
Rose passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Rose was preceded in death by her parents Amelia and Peter Serafini from Italy and her siblings John Serafini and Anne Corder. Rose was born in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High school where she was the captain of the volleyball team. She was also a majorette, she stated she threw the baton as high as a telephone pole.
Rose worked on a Navy base in Florida during WWII and then worked for Humboldt Title company in Eureka. She was an exceptional cook, the family would gather and loved her handmade gnocchi! Rose flourished as a housewife and loving Mother, she was involved in PTA, Girl Scouts and Booster club.
Later in life Rose became a long time member of the Eureka Women’s Club with her late sister Anne.
She enjoyed traveling to Italy, Peru, Hawaii and on Caribbean Cruises. Rose would also travel to visit her children wherever they were from N.Y. to Chicago and Las Vegas for shows also LA and Washington.
Rose loved living in Eureka for the people and the weather, she was happy to call Humboldt her home! She was the reason why many family members moved back home to Humboldt. We were all so fortunate to have her as our loving family Matriarch.
Living a life full of energy and love she was able to meet her Great Great Grandchildren! We will all remember how quick she was to flash her beautiful smile and how she walked with a cute little bounce in her step.
Our sweet endearing Rose is survived by her loving partner Donald Ziengenfuss “Ziggy”, Her children: John Burman, Joanne Melendy, Sharon Kopin and Carol Ondrejko. Grandchildren: Michael Melendy, Courtney Burman, Casey Shonfield, Kelsey Tognetti, Daniel Ondrejko and Kristen Roach. Great-grandchildren: Mark and John Melendy, Asher and Ember Burman, Nolan, Brady and Logan Tognetti and Ronin Shonfield. Great Great Grandchildren: Raiden and Liliana Melendy
Also her loving niece Judy Kovacovich and nephews Tom and Gary Corder.
Rose was preceded in death by her husbands Chester Burman and Dr. Donald Lawson. Also hranddaughter Christine Melendy and nephew Dick Giacolini.
Our family would like to thank all the wonderful care givers and Hospice of Humboldt for helping and caring for her end of life. We would love for any donations in honor of Rose to be sent to Hospice of Humboldt. Thank you
We welcome you to to attend the following services for Rose, At Sanders Funeral Home on Monday Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. for the recitation of the Rosary, the Funeral Mass will be at St. Bernard Catholic Church Tuesday Sept. 12 at 11 a,m, with a burial following at Ocean View Cemetery.
